The deceased are Donald Mayer, aged 51, and Tatiana Casap, aged 35, according to a news release from the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department. The identification process was slowed to ensure precision and sensitivity for the deceased's families, particularly as Tatiana's next of kin had to be contacted abroad, necessitating translation services for proper notification.
The department expressed their "deepest condolences to the families of Donald and Tatiana during this challenging time" and requested patience as they worked to provide "accurate and respectful communication." The update follows autopsies completed on Tuesday, which had tentatively identified the victims with further confirmation needed as part of the wider investigative process. Earlier reports from the Sheriff's Department last Saturday, indicated a person of interest was taken into custody on separate charges following the discovery of the two bodies inside a residence in the Village of Waukesha. The initial welfare check requested last Friday led to the discovery of one resident dead, and another's whereabouts unknown at the time.
