Over the weekend, Brooklyn witnessed two separate traffic incidents resulting in the death of two pedestrians. According to Gothamist, the more recent case occurred last Saturday morning in Williamsburg, where an unidentified man in his 20s was struck and killed by a dump truck driver. The victim had been picking up food from the street when he was hit. Despite the severity of the situation, the driver involved failed to stop and has yet to be arrested. The investigation is still ongoing, and the NYPD’s Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is handling the case.

In a separate incident reported by News 12 Brooklyn, 45-year-old Trisha Chiriboga lost her life in Flatbush after being struck by a car while exiting an SUV. This accident happened last Friday night, only hours before the Williamsburg fatality. In this case, the driver who hit Chiriboga remained at the scene, and as of yet, no charges have been filed.

The NYPD has reported at least 10 traffic-related fatalities in Brooklyn since the beginning of the year, matching the pace of traffic deaths in the borough from the same period last year. Officials urge anyone with information on the hit-and-run incident in Williamsburg to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.
