The Arizona Department of Transportation will close southbound State Route 143 between Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) and I-10 from 10 p.m. on Friday, to 10 a.m. on Sunday, due to a traffic shift. The closure will also affect the ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143. Drivers are advised to plan detours accordingly, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The closure of southbound SR 143 on-ramps at Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard, and University Drive, along with the westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Sky Harbor Boulevard, is part of a larger effort to improve traffic flow in the region. Arizona Department of Transportation suggests detouring by using westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 for westbound travelers, and for eastbound traffic, heading southbound on Loop 101 to westbound Loop 202. Southbound 44th Street remains the best route to reach the airport during the weekend. Upon reopening, SR 143 will feature new high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes connecting "westbound I-10 to northbound SR 143 and southbound SR 143 to eastbound I-10," along with dual HOV lanes between US 60 and I-17 on the I-10 mainline, promoting carpooling and ridesharing.

Ramp and lane closures are scheduled for this weekend as part of the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Arizona Department of Transportation recommends checking for updates at i10broadwaycurve.com/alerts and downloading TheCurve mobile app for real-time changes. The project, funded by a half-cent sales tax from Maricopa County voters under Proposition 400.
