
Chicago's streets witnessed a surge of violence over the weekend, with multiple shootings reported. A 19-year-old man was critically injured in a shooting inside an Austin store on Saturday evening. In the incident, which took place in the 5000 block of West Madison Street, the young man became a casualty during a confrontation that quickly escalated when an individual produced a gun and fired, striking him in the right leg. The victim was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, as Chicago Sun-Times reports.
According to FOX 32 Chicago, the violent incidents continued through the night. In a separate occurrence, lasting impactful consequences were borne by the River North community as a man approximately 25 years old lost his life to gun violence. After engaging in a verbal altercation with an assailant on the 500 block of North Franklin Street, the man was shot multiple times in the chest. Despite prompt medical attention and being rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The perpetrator of the shooting has yet to be apprehended as the investigation proceeds.
Further shootings plagued Chicago's early Sunday hours, spreading a wave of fear across the city. Little Village found itself the backdrop of another shooting when a 33-year-old man walking on the sidewalk became a target as shots were fired from a passing dark-colored car in the 2600 block of South Kildare Avenue. The man was struck in the foot but was in good condition following treatment at Mt. Sinai Hospital. No suspects have been detained in connection with this incident.
Meanwhile, South Chicago was not spared from the weekend's violent streak, with a 21-year-old suffering a gunshot wound to his right thigh. The victim, walking on the sidewalk of the 2900 block of East 81st Street, felt pain as shots rang out from a red car that loomed near him, afterwards fleeing in an unknown direction. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and is reported to be in good condition. Detectives are tirelessly working on these cases.
