The wildfire that ignited on Monday near Interstate 10 in Gillespie County, specifically southwest of Fredericksburg, has now reached 90% containment, as noted by the Texas A&M Forest Service. Previously reported by CBS Austin, this fire, known as the Duderstadt Fire, consumed roughly 50 acres. Evacuation notice, which was previously in effect for residents along Duderstadt Road due to the rapid spread of the fire, has been lifted, as stated by Gillespie County Sheriff Chris Ayala, who also mentioned that the road had been reinstated for locals by Tuesday morning.
As the county's firefighting efforts continue, another nearby wildfire, the Crabapple Fire, was 85% contained after blazing through 9,737 acres with high winds increasing challenges for containment operations; this was according to information obtained by FOX 7 Austin, additionally, these ongoing incidents triggered evacuations for those located north of I-10 or Duderstadt Road and the inhabitants near Thrill Hill as a safety measure. The back-to-back wildfires in Gillespie County, have taken a toll, resulting in at least one firefighter sustaining injuries after a tree limb incident, and since then the firefighter has been discharged from the hospital.
Warnings and orders have been issued in light of the recent fires, with a Red Flag Warning and disaster declaration put in place to mitigate further risks. Gillespie County's disaster declaration is aimed to tighten restrictions on outdoor burning in the region and advises against any "hot work" such as welding unless essential precautions such as immediate access to water or fire suppressants are present—a violation of which could lead to substantial fines or jail time.
