
A fatal traffic incident near Leesburg claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman from Wildwood early this morning. This incident prompted an investigation by state troopers. According to WFTV, the collision occurred around 4 a.m. on County Road 44 near Cypress Drive when a Ford Focus struck the woman while walking along the roadway.
The vehicle's driver, as reported to Inside Lake, was a 69-year-old man from Leesburg who remained uninjured. He stayed at the crash site following the collision. It was not immediately made clear why the woman happened to be in the direct path of the oncoming car. The driver's Ford Focus was heading eastbound when the vehicle fatally met with the pedestrian.
Emergency services swiftly transported the woman to the UF Health Leesburg Hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead. The Florida Highway Patrol has yet to release the name of the deceased as the crash continues to be under scrutiny to gather more definitive details of how the events unfolded.
