
Tragedy struck near Orlando when a 47-year-old woman lost her life and an 85-year-old woman sustained serious injuries following a hit-and-run crash, as reported by ClickOrlando. The Florida Highway Patrol detailed that the incident occurred early today around 12:38 a.m. at the intersection of Sand Lake Road and Winegard Road, where a BMW X3 collided with the rear of a Honda Odyssey, which was stationary due to a red traffic signal.
According to WESH, the driver of the Honda and her passenger were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where, unfortunately, the driver was pronounced dead from her injuries, and the passenger, who comes from Pembroke Pines, is being treated for serious injuries they were both wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Post-crash, the BMW's occupants fled on foot, however, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office was able to apprehend a 25-year-old man from Kissimmee, one of the BMW's occupants, the Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that this individual was also taken to the hospital due to serious injuries sustained as a result of the crash, the search continues to figure out the identity of the BMW's driver at the time of the collision.
The Florida Highway Patrol is calling on anyone with information about the crash to reach out by contacting FHP at 407-737-2213 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477), in a statement obtained by ClickOrlando, an FHP public affairs officer outlined crucial steps for individuals to follow should they ever find themselves in a similar situation, among them is to ensure personal safety, check on others involved, and to file a report if necessary.
