A tragic road rage incident in south suburban Worth has resulted in charges against a 27-year-old man. According to ABC7 Chicago, on Monday around 6:20 p.m., police were called to a hit-and-run in the 6500-block of West 115th Street where a 46-year-old man had been fatally struck by a dark-colored BMW sedan after the vehicle fled the scene.

The investigation revealed that the victim was attempting to break up a road rage argument between his son and the BMW driver, when he stepped into the road; the driver then struck him with their vehicle and continued southbound on Natchez Avenue, later identified as Abdalla Shaban of Worth, he was soon found at his residence in the 11500-block of South Natchez and promptly arrested, police said.

The man who lost his life was rushed to Advocate Christ Hospital but succumbed to his injuries, FOX 32 Chicago reported that the Cook County Medical Examiner has identified the victim as Douglas Richer.

Abdalla Shaban now faces a charge of reckless homicide, a charge for leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, and multiple traffic offenses, "On Wednesday, Shaban was charged with one count of reckless homicide, one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, and multiple traffic offenses under the Illinois Vehicle Code," police informed FOX 32 Chicago, Shaban awaits a mandatory detention hearing set for Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
