A tragic accident claimed the life of a 22-year-old motorcyclist yesterday evening on Interstate 295 near the Dames Point Bridge, as reported by multiple sources. First Coast News details that the collision occurred when the young man riding a black Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle struck the rear of a red Toyota Corolla driven by a 26-year-old woman from Jacksonville.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol's account, the incident happened at precisely 8:01 p.m near Heckscher Drive, and the motorcyclist, who was indeed wearing his helmet at the time of impact, was pronounced dead at the scene, this devasting series of events unfolded as both vehicles travelled southbound which led to hours-long closure of the lanes in that direction, as cited by News4JAX.
The aftermath of the crash also involved the driver of the Corolla, who sustained minor injuries and was treated at UF Health Shands Hospital, per information from Action News JAX. Additionally, there was a 27-year-old male passenger in the Corolla, who was reported by FHP to have not suffered any injuries in the crash.
