Residents of Penrose were reminded of the ever-present threat of urban crime when a 24-year-old man fell victim to a violent carjacking last night. According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred in the 4700 block of Anderson at approximately 8:00 p.m. when the victim, in an effort to navigate his surroundings, was assaulted by two men, one brandishing a broken glass bottle.
The assailants confronted the young man as he sat in his red Hyundai Sonata, the glass shard pressed against his chest a crude but effective threat demanding surrender of the vehicle. The frightened victim complied, allowing the perpetrators to abscond with the car, as reported by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. The 24-year-old was fortunately unharmed physically, but the psychological toll of such an event can never be understated.
In a testament to modern technology and, perhaps, a small victory amidst the ordeal, the victim successfully tracked his vehicle to the area of Cintra and Carter, where it was found abandoned. The speed with which he traced his Hyundai is indicative of an era where victims of crime can at least hope for swift recovery of stolen property, even if justice for the crime itself often lags behind.
This daring crime is still under active investigation with detectives calling for any witnesses or individuals with valuable information to contribute. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department urges anyone who can assist to reach out at 314-444-0001.
