The incident occurred yesterday when, according to a KHOU 11 report, a gunfight erupted outside his Northborough Drive home near the North Freeway. The stray bullet went through a glass door and struck the young child, who has since undergone surgery for a fractured skull.
In the aftermath of the incident, the boy's mother, Divina, recounted to KHOU 11 the moment her son was hit. "Por que a mi dice. Dios sana por favor. Sálvame por favor no me quiero morir," she remembered, revealing her son's pleas to not let him die. Doctors at Memorial Hermann Hospital are running more tests to confirm that there has been no brain damage. Meanwhile, the Houston Police Department, in conjunction with Crime Stoppers, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the suspects in the shootout.
The boy's family, affected by the incident, is now hesitant to return to their residence. His oldest sister, her identity concealed for protection, conveyed to ABC13 her distress, "I just think that's so messed up..because he's my everything. He's my favorite little brother. He's everything to me, and to see him in such a position is horrifying."
In response to the incident and rising public concern, Houston police have announced plans to increase patrols in the Greenspoint area. Council member Tarsha Jackson, who represents District B, is actively engaging in discussions to address the violence affecting the neighborhood.
