
A tragic collision claimed the life of a 72-year-old Gainesville woman on State Road 21 in Clay County this past Monday afternoon. According to First Coast News, the incident involved a head-on crash when a pickup truck, traveling in the opposite direction, entered the oncoming lane and struck the woman's car. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the crash occurred around 4:25 p.m. near the Dade Road intersection.
The driver of the pickup truck, a 69-year-old man from Keystone Heights, sustained minor injuries in the accident, and, there was another person in the car with the deceased who suffered serious injuries. News4Jax detailed that emergency medical personnel declared the woman deceased at the scene, marking the crash as fatal.
The Florida Highway Patrol is actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the crash. Identifications of the injured passenger who is in critical condition have not been released pending notification of the family. The authorities are working to determine the cause of this unfortunate event, and whether factors such as speed, distraction, or impairment played a role.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this event, Action News Jax reported that the northbound vehicle, inexplicably entered the southbound lane, leading to the collision with the front bumper of the southbound vehicle on the driver’s side.
