A tragic incident earlier this morning has led to the closure of all northbound lanes on Interstate 43 at North Avenue in Milwaukee. The events unfolded just after 4 a.m., when a two-vehicle crash that involved a car and a pick-up truck towing a travel trailer occurred, as reported by FOX6 News. In a somber twist, a 76-year-old Milwaukee woman, who is believed to be related to one of the individuals in the initial collision, stopped at the scene and began to walk around the wreckage.
Authorities have not disclosed what specifically led to the crash nor the exact number of vehicles involved. Still expected to be closed for at least an additional hour, the northbound traffic along I-43 at North Avenue continues to be rerouted, as detailed by TMJ4 News. While the investigation into the collision's cause is ongoing, drivers are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the area.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office stated that following the initial incident, an unrelated vehicle came to a stop at the crash site. According to WISN News, the northbound closure caused a significant build-up of morning traffic. The names of the victims and the specifics of the crash's circumstances are awaiting release pending further investigation.
