The bone-chilling neglect culminated in a grim reality for a 97-year-old woman in El Paso County, a case which authorities have now ruled as a homicide. Corrye Brewer's life ended under the stark ruthlessness of winter's embrace, subjected to freezing temperatures that led to her death. According to CBS News Colorado, El Paso County deputies discovered Brewer at an abandoned house where she was left without essential means of aid, no walker, no phone, and no path to shelter.
Signals of distress were written in the snow and the wind of that forsaken place near Judge Orr Rd. and Calhan Hwy.., with the thermometer plunging as low as 16 degrees Fahrenheit. An autopsy has now shed light on the horrific details of Brewer's last moments, detailing that the victim was intentionally abandoned, according to KKTV. "Per report, the decedent was intentionally left in the cold without any way to return home, get to adequate shelter, or call for help," stated the coroner's office, which affirmed the manner of death to be homicide.
Scrutiny has turned towards the family, specifically Brewer's daughter, who is alleged to have left her outside the aforementioned uninhabited structure. Left to confront the cold on that fateful January night, Brewer's circumstances would soon evolve from a personal tragedy to a haunting societal indictment. FOX21 News reported that Brewer had been left with "no cell phone, and without her walker." As the freezing wind caressed the desolate surroundings, it was clear she had been rendered helplessly immobile.
