Homeowners in Arlington have until May 15 to protest their property appraisals and until April 30 to apply for any tax exemptions they may qualify for.

Protests must be filed with the Tarrant Appraisal Review Board, and residents are encouraged to check their exemption status through the Tarrant Appraisal District website.

The City of Arlington offers a 20% homestead exemption on top of regular tax breaks. Additional exemptions are available for seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, and surviving spouses of U.S. Armed Forces members and first responders. Seniors over 65 may also defer their property tax payments if needed.

Arlington’s share of local property taxes is about 20 to 25%, depending on the school district, slightly lower than neighboring cities like Mansfield and Fort Worth. The current city property tax rate stands at $0.5998 per $100 of assessed value.

Property taxes fund nearly half of Arlington’s General Fund, which supports essential services and infrastructure. In 2025, the city expects to grant over $9.6 billion in exemptions. A new exemption for child care providers is also expected to deliver an additional $3.7 million in tax relief.

To apply for exemptions, homeowners can visit the Tarrant Appraisal District website and file online at no cost. Help is available in English and Spanish by calling 817-284-4063 during business hours.
