The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is slated to play a pivotal role in the 2025-26 College Football Playoff, hosting a semifinal game in prime time on Friday, Jan. 9. The confirmation from the College Football Playoff and ESPN was reported by FOX 5 Atlanta, which also noted the full schedule for the postseason matchups. The lineup kicks off with the other semifinal, the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl on Thursday, Jan. 8. The national championship game follows on a Monday, Jan. 19, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

Last season, the Peach Bowl set a viewership record for bowl games held before 3 p.m. ET, drawing in 17.3 million viewers, while the national championship boasted a massive 22.1 million viewers, according to figures provided by FOX 5 Atlanta. Organizers and broadcasters are no doubt eager to match or surpass these numbers, with ESPN broadcasting all the games from the quarterfinals through to the national championship.

Changes were also made to the New Year's Day bowl schedule with the Capital One Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential, and the Allstate Sugar Bowl moving to earlier start times. "This New Year’s Day schedule adjustment is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between the CFP, ESPN, the Capital One Orange Bowl, the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential, and the Allstate Sugar Bowl," Rich Clark, executive director of the CFP told AL.com in a piece detailing the updated schedule. These schedule changes are designed to provide "the optimal viewing experience" for fans.

With the 12-team playoff format, which includes the top five ranked conference champions and seven at-large selections, the games are expected to generate significant interest. The quarterfinals are set for Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, following opening-round campus site games on Dec. 19-20. Broadcast details for the opening round will be announced later this year. The Rose Bowl, in particular, will see a notable alteration with a kickoff set for 3 p.m. instead of its traditional 2 p.m. Pacific time as reported by AL.com. Notably, ESPN will be the home for all CFP games from the quarterfinals through the championship game.

Gary Stokan, president and CEO of Peach Bowl, Inc., told FOX 5 Atlanta, "The expanded College Football Playoff was an incredible success last year, and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl is honored to again play a critical part in determining the College Football Playoff national champion this year when we host our first Semifinal game in the new format." With the semifinal set for prime time, Atlanta's Peach Bowl stands to continue its significant contribution to the college sporting landscape.
