Austin has kicked off the much-anticipated Colony Park Development, a venture set to reshape a sizeable chunk of the city with a myriad of residential, commercial, and institutional establishments. According to a statement obtained by the City of Austin's official news site, the project broke ground last week, turning a new leaf for the community's future.
The 208-acre city-owned site is slated to create up to 3,000 residential units, which will include a mix of single-family homes, townhomes, and apartments. On top of the housing component, the Colony Park Development aims to swiftly integrate approximately 230,000 square feet of office space and roughly 130,000 square feet prioritized for retail. An integral part of the plan features the Loyola Town Center, destined to be a hub for groceries, retail, and the Central Health’s Colony Park Health and Wellness Center. This last addition is pivotal, promising to expand healthcare access for residents in Northeast Austin and Travis County.
Austin Mayor Kirk Watson highlighted the significance of the partnership between the city and the community, emphasizing the collaborative process behind the project. "The Colony Park Development has been a true partnership between the City and the community from the start. We've listened, learned, and worked together to bring real solutions – like more affordable housing and better access to resources.
