
Austin Police Department has released the name of the victim from a fatal shooting incident that took place on Nueces Street on April 7, 2025. Tavon Brown, identified as a Black male born on August 15, 1985, succumbed to his injuries after being shot at approximately 7:29 p.m., as stated by the City of Austin.
The same incident led to the arrest of a 16-year-old juvenile Hispanic male, who is the alleged shooter. Calls to 9-1-1 alerted the Austin Police Department (APD) to the shooting, with first responders arriving to find Brown in critical condition, as detailed by the City of Austin. After emergency measures were taken, Brown was declared deceased at a local hospital an hour later, the time of death being 8:17 p.m.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were summoned to the scene to collect evidence and gather witness testimonies, unraveling the series of events leading to Brown's death. According to the City of Austin, the confrontation began when Brown and another individual, seemingly unconnected, were walking and crossed paths with two other males. A brief verbal exchange over the pathway's occupancy escalated into violence, leading to Brown's untimely death.
Details of the motive are still unclear, however, APD is actively seeking additional information from the public to aid their investigation.
