The Austin Police Department has launched a homicide investigation following the death of Gabrielle Williams, a young Black woman, who was fatally shot on April 25th near the 500 block of E Rundberg Lane. The incident, which is now known as Austin's 20th homicide of the year, occurred late Friday night, as reported by the City of Austin's official website.
At approximately 11:29 p.m., Austin's emergency services received several calls about gunfire in a wooded area behind the address, leading officers to discover Williams with gunshot wounds on a sidewalk in front of a car wash. The victim, born October 7, 2004, was reportedly carried to the front of the location by her boyfriend in an urgent bid for help, and was pronounced dead at the scene just over an hour later.
Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were quickly on the scene to gather evidence and conduct interviews with potential witnesses. The investigation so far indicates that Williams was shot near her tent by an unidentified suspect who then fled.
