An Austin woman is facing capital murder charges after her mother was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Rockdale. According to CBS Austin, 35-year-old Brittney Deshay Shields was arrested on Monday at her residence in Austin, following the discovery of 58-year-old Stephanie McBride's body the previous evening. The Rockdale Police Department, who received a 911 call around 5:13 p.m., responded to find McBride deceased at a home in the 600 block of Rice Street.
Rockdale police declared they 'quickly obtained an arrest warrant for Shields, who is McBride's daughter, Rockdale police say. All evidence found also shows that Shields was the only one involved, as stated by FOX 7 Austin. Shields was found without further incident, and the Amber Alert that had been issued for her two children was cancelled after they were found unharmed with her.
Shields is currently detained at the Travis County jail, awaiting extradition to Milam County. The investigation into what motivated the shooting continues, as authorities have not yet disclosed what specific evidence led to Shield's quick identification as the suspect.
During the arrest, multiple law enforcement agencies collaborated, including assistance from McBride's family members, the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, the Texas Highway Patrol, and the Austin Police Department. An autopsy for McBride has been ordered, and further details will likely emerge as the legal process unfolds. The children involved in the Amber Alert are reported safe, a small mercy in an otherwise tragic family affair.
