Construction on the intersection of County Highway 14 and 24, known to locals as 47th Street and Osgood Avenue in Baytown Township, is nearing the finish line, but not without its final hurdles. According to an announcement from Washington County's official website, significant progress has been made, yet the project must undergo several critical updates this coming spring and summer. These updates include reconstruction of the Union Pacific Railroad Crossing and installation of a new traffic light at the intersection of Osgood Avenue and 47th Street.
Motorists be warned: starting May 5, you're going to need to reroute your commute, as the said work will necessitate the temporary closure of County Highway 24 (Osgood Avenue) just south of the 14/24 intersection, though it should be noted, that the roadway will remain open east and west and north of the intersection to local traffic and local residents will still have access to their homes. The county has provided a detour map for navigating around the construction area.
As the community braces for this final stretch of construction, it is important to consider the benefits these improvements are set to bring. Increased traffic efficiency and safer pathways for pedestrians are among the anticipated outcomes once all work is completed. While detours can be an inconvenience, the long-term impact of a more functional intersection holds promise for the township's daily commuters.
This project is a continued demonstration of the county's commitment to updating its infrastructure to meet the demands of its growing population; and while the local populace may have to grapple with the short-term inconveniences that road closures bring, the assurance of a more streamlined transit experience is on the horizon. For updates on the project’s progress or any changes to the detour, keep an eye on the county's news alerts.
