A Washington County Sheriff's Office dispatch details the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a 25-year-old Beaverton man, Andrew S. Canela, on the night of Friday, April 4. According to a press release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred near SW River Road and SW Farmington Road, just south of Hillsboro.

Traveling north on SW River Road, the motorcyclist, later identified as Canela, reportedly lost control while attempting to navigate a curve in the road and struck a tree. The first deputy responding to the 911 call made it to the crash site within four minutes. Driving through the area, an off-duty firefighter from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue happened to come upon the crash before the deputy's arrival, as reported by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, it was determined by the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team and the Remotely Operated Vehicle Team that high speed played a vital role in the tragic outcome. The Oregon Department of Transportation has recorded a steep sum of 94 motor vehicle traffic fatalities in 2025, which now includes five motorcyclists following this event, as per the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to the rise in road accidents, the Washington County Sheriff's Office is urging people to drive carefully. They remind everyone to "slow down, drive without distractions and designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service after using any substance that impairs one’s ability to drive safely," as mentioned in their recent statement.
