Bellevue is on the hunt for community-minded residents ready to have a say in the city's environmental, transportation, and parks strategies. As reported by a release on Bellevue's official government website, there's a call-out for applicants to fill multiple board and commission openings. The deadline to throw your hat in the ring is 5 p.m. on Monday, April 14.
Volunteers make up these advisory groups, appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council, offering their voices on a variety of city policies and projects. They serve four-year stints and come together regularly, bridging gaps between the council and the community. Interested candidates, with the ability to meet monthly, are urged to apply online.
In need of candidates are the Environmental Services Commission, which advises on Bellevue Utilities' multiple services like water and waste management, and the Parks & Community Services Board, focusing on park planning and community services policy. The Transportation Commission is also seeking applicants to oversee transportation projects and policies. Each commission has its own schedule, listed on Bellevue's announcement, with some meeting twice a month.
There's a small catch: while the Environmental Services Commission is open to applicants from the Bellevue Utilities service area, all other positions require city residency. Bellevue is striving for a diverse pool of participants, according to the city's announcement, meaning everyone with a passion for shaping Bellevue's future should consider applying. It is also possible to pick up a print application at various public locations, such as the City Clerk’s Office and local libraries.
