Ice Cube's BIG3 basketball league will return to Detroit with a stop at Little Caesars Arena on July 20. In its eighth season, the league is introducing a city-based franchise model, with the Detroit Amplifiers set to debut. The season will feature eight new city teams competing over ten weeks for a $1 million prize, as reported by The Detroit News.

The 2025 BIG3 season will begin on June 14 at the Allstate Arena in Chicago. Ice Cube shared his enthusiasm, calling it "the most anticipated BIG3 season yet," and promising a blend of basketball, culture, and community events. According to a statement from the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Amplifiers, coached by Hall of Famer George Gervin, are expected to bring a competitive edge and entertainment that honors Detroit's basketball legacy.

Tickets for the season will go on sale starting April 11, with the first four weeks available initially, and additional sales for dates, including the Detroit game, to be announced later. Each week, all eight teams will compete in different cities, bringing a regional aspect to the national 3-on-3 competition.

Fans will experience intense matchups and the opportunity to witness teams debut on their home turf, alongside elements of music and local culture. This shift represents the BIG3's transition from a traveling exhibition to a home-and-away format. Ice Cube told 313presents, "Everyone knows that the BIG3 isn’t just what is done on the court – when we come to town, you know there is music, culture, and community to be had." The Detroit Amplifiers are expected to highlight the city’s basketball enthusiasm and compete in an increasingly competitive league.

The BIG3 is set to bring more than basketball this summer, offering a blend of sports and cultural events in cities across the country. Updates on team rosters and the 2025 Championship game will follow the BIG3 combine and draft on May 15. A documentary will also be released, showcasing the journey and behind-the-scenes details of the season.
