The search for Maria Kraus, a 39-year-old woman reported missing since February, tragically concluded when her body was found under the Westinghouse Bridge in North Versailles. WTAE reported that county officials confirmed the discovery before 6 p.m. Monday.
Despite extensive searches previously conducted in the area, the resolution of this case brings to witness the community's outpouring of grief and support. Allegheny County Medical Examiner's office identified the deceased as Kraus, who vanished on Feb. 10, marking an end to the uncertainty surrounding her disappearance. In the wake of the news, Kraus's brother posted on Facebook, as WTAE reported, "Maria was fighting demons that we were unaware of, and now she has found peace. This is heartbreaking and not the outcome anyone hoped for. However, we can now bring Maria home and give her the memorial she deserves."
Following the initial report of her absence, Kraus' vehicle was located near East Pittsburgh McKees Rocks Boulevard and Braddock Avenue. Audacy reported that authorities are actively investigating the death.
