In the early hours of last Tuesday, a routine patrol by Shrewsbury Police resulted in a dramatic chase and the eventual arrest of a Boston man. According to a social media post from the Shrewsbury, MA Police Department, Officer Delaney, while performing his duties, encountered a parked U-Haul truck with its driver's door open and a man slumped over the wheel.

Upon approaching the vehicle, signs of impairment were clear to Officer Delaney as he investigated the scene, parked in the CVS Pharmacy lot on 197 Boston Turnpike. Suddenly putting the vehicle into drive, the male operator, later identified as 59-year-old Edward Alexander, fled the scene, nearly striking the officer with the U-Haul in the process.

Officer Delaney initiated pursuit as the U-Haul sped down Harrington Avenue Northbound, prompting a call for additional officers. The chase was abruptly ended when Alexander crashed into a rock wall and guard rail at the intersection of Old Mill Road and Harrington Avenue. Responding to the crash, Officer Delaney ordered Alexander out of the vehicle, which met with resistance. Alexander became combative and actively resisted arrest until he was subdued and additional officers arrived to assist.

Digging through the wreckage following the crash, officers discovered numerous presumed stolen items, including video game consoles, laptops, and even a lawnmower. Charged with numerous offenses, including assault with a dangerous weapon and operating under the influence of drugs, Alexander was revealed to have multiple warrants for his arrest in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. "Officer Delaney began to pursue the vehicle onto Harrington Avenue Northbound and requested more officers to respond," detailed the Shrewsbury Police recounting the high-speed chase that ensued.
