Henderson is gearing up for a new casino as Boyd Gaming commences the construction of Cadence Crossing, the gambling and entertainment facility set to replace the longstanding Jokers Wild. KTNV reported the casino's groundbreaking took place on Thursday, initiating the development adjacent to the swiftly expanding Cadence community. Cadence Crossing is anticipated to house 450 slot machines within a 10,000-square-foot gaming space.
Joined by city officials and Cadence development representatives, Boyd Gaming showcased their plans for the structure, which marks their first Las Vegas Valley undertaking in two decades. The casino aims to synergize with the growth of the nearby 12,000-home Cadence development, erecting the venue in phases. The construction is set to stride alongside the community's progression, per details from a Las Vegas Review-Journal article.
Plans for the 50,000-square-foot project were unveiled in Boyd's second-quarter earnings call in July. With a $100 million capital expenditure allocation on its balance sheet, the project will invigorate the area, alongside a major rehaul of the South Boulder Highway, championed by Mayor Michelle Romero, who observed the groundbreaking ceremony. "Last fall, we began work on the reimagined Boulder Highway project, and the $170 million investment on these 7½ miles will have a positive impact across many facets of our community," Romero told the attendees, emphasizing the development's anticipated community benefits.
Despite high expectations, the exact number of jobs that Cadence Crossing will generate remains disclosed, with Boyd Executive Steve Schutte implying a significant growth in staff over the existing establishment, without presenting a specific figure. Flanked by earthmovers and hard hats, local Council members participated in the ceremonial first dig, collectively looking ahead to the casino's contribution to the locale's economy and infrastructure. The officials' presence highlighted the significant interest and projected impact of Cadence Crossing's entry into the Henderson landscape.
While Jokers Wild will continue operations until the new casino is ready to debut in mid-2026, discussions about the addition of a hotel to the Cadence Crossing complex suggest long-term commitments to Henderson's touristic allure. "Cadence Crossing will allow us to better serve the rapidly-growing master-planned community of Cadence – and to further expand our presence in Henderson as the Cadence community continues to grow in the years ahead," Schutte reaffirmed in a speech covered by The Review-Journal.
