Following the death of his brother due to cancer, DeMers, who assumed control of the business back in 2023, is now the focal point of a fraud investigation, triggered by complaints about unfulfilled orders leading to liens on properties belonging to Buky Construction and Easton Construction. Between October 2023 and March 2024, both construction companies paid approximately $792,383 to GVWD for products that were never received, as Demers redirected the funds across at least 21 different bank accounts, according to documents cited by WTSP. The orders placed by GVWD with the manufacturer, E.S. Construction, remained outstanding as customer payments were allegedly moved between various business and personal accounts.
The BPD's examination of financial records reveals specific expenditures attributed to Demers' misallocation of customer monies. Notably, an alleged $19,554 spent on airfare and upwards of $200,000 squandered in gambling escapades. Additionally, records indicate withdrawals at establishments such as the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and expenditures on lavish dinners, spa treatments, and gift shop purchases.
