Students from Brighton High School, as part of the Apprentice Learning Program, have found themselves in the midst of Boston Police Department's operations, exploring law enforcement careers with the hands-on experience. Every Tuesday, according to a recent report by the Boston Police Department, they've interacted with officers from units like the Bicycle Unit, Drug Unit, and SWAT Team.

During their visits, students were taken behind the scenes. After enjoying lunch, they walked through District D-14 – Allston/Brighton’s local station. Walking through the report writing area, interested in law enforcement, the students learned how to lift fingerprints with detectives and toured the booking area. The patrol cars, ready for inspection, were also showcased to the young attendees.

"A great hands-on experience, giving students a closer look at what it means to serve and protect those we serve!" – the Boston Police Department noted about the initiative, aimed at better acquainting students with the day-to-day responsibilities and the diversity of tasks involved in policing.

By fostering such community engagement, the police department hopes to break down barriers between officers and youth, opening dialogues and understanding. The program also provides a clear path for those young individuals who might be considering a future in law enforcement. While riding in police cruisers, the youngsters’ excitement could not be contained, as they were taught the ins and outs of police work.
