A disturbing discovery in a Brooklyn apartment has led to the arrest of a mother and her boyfriend after three young children were found in alarming living conditions. According to ABC7NY, authorities arrived at the residence on Linden Street in Bushwick and found a 3-year-old boy tethered to a bed frame and alongside his 6-year-old sister and 10-month-old sister, all of whom appeared malnourished.
Kiama Messier, 25, and her 26-year-old boyfriend Thomas Madera are now facing multiple charges including assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment. Sources indicated that the couple was sleeping in another room when the boyfriend's cousin discovered the dire situation and ,alerted the authorities.
The cousin's arrival at the apartment around 11:50 a.m. Tuesday shed light on the children's plight. As reported by New York Post, the 3-year-old was found with his wrists fastened to a bed with a sweatshirt, and the other two children also showed signs of malnourishment. Police responded to the call and rushed the children to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition.
Messier, from the Bronx and Madera, a resident in the Linden Street home, is now dealing with the legal consequences of their alleged negligence. In addition to the aforementioned charges, Madera also faces an unlawful imprisonment charge. The city's Administration for Children's Services has been notified of the case. The children did not sustain life-threatening injuries; however, the 3-year-old boy did suffer swelling on his wrists from being tied to the bed.
