A brush fire in Sarasota County caused the shutdown of parts of Jacaranda Boulevard yesterday afternoon, as informed by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office. The area affected stretched from State Road 776 to U.S. 41, behind a CVS pharmacy on Tamiami Trail. Heavy smoke from the blaze led officials to advise the public to avoid the vicinity for safety concerns and to facilitate the emergency response efforts.
According to a report by WTSP, the Sarasota Sheriff's Office updated the public via social media about the road closures, stating "Shutting down Jacaranda Blvd. NB between 41 and Corso Venetia Blvd. ⚠️Jacaranda at 41 - SR776 is completely shut down due to a brush fire. Please avoid the area." The lack of immediate danger to homes or businesses, still, the containment of the fire did not alleviate the disruptive presence of thick smoke hanging in the air.
Further closures were reported by The Herald-Tribune, where the fire prompted the closure of Jacaranda Boulevard between Tamiami Trail and Corso Venetia Boulevard around 4 p.m. due to heavy smoke. The visibility issues created by the smoke were a significant concern for traffic and the general public's health, especially for those with respiratory conditions.
Despite the disruptive force of nature, the brush fire was eventually contained. ABC Action News reported that, although the fire had been quelled, the heavy smoke was expected to linger in the area. Emphasizing the lack of threat to structures, and, “The brush fire has been contained, and there are currently no threats to homes or businesses,” the SCSO noted.
