A tense situation was defused at Freedom Elementary School in Buckeye when police responded to a fight involving a firearm on school grounds yesterday, as per the City of Buckeye's official website. Officers were dispatched to the campus on Sundance Parkway just before 4 p.m. where a confrontation was underway; four individuals were promptly detained, including one who was carrying a handgun.
Among those apprehended were a 15-year-old female, a 17-year-old female, a 17-year-old male, and 19-year-old Iriel Rivera, who is now facing multiple weapons charges after displaying the gun during the altercation. Fortunately, no one was physically harmed in the incident. The suspects were there to pick up relatives and are not students of the school, leading to a chaotic end to the school day.
The police were able to control the scene swiftly, which was corroborated by officials stating, "This was a very chaotic scene that was quickly contained thanks to a community that is vigilant and called 911." The three juvenile suspects are facing charges including disorderly conduct and disrupting an educational institution, while Rivera has been booked into jail, as reported by the City of Buckeye's official website.
