Curious citizens of Buckeye looking to peek behind the curtain of local law enforcement operations can now sign up for the Spring Citizens Academy. It's a unique opportunity to gain a hands-on understanding of what policing entails, without any cost to participate. Starting May 13 and running for seven weeks, every Tuesday evening is about to get a whole lot more interesting for those enrolled.

During this comprehensive program, a mix of classroom education and practical exercises will guide participants through the various aspects of police work. From patrol procedures to SWAT tactics, the academy promises to deliver insight into the key components of the Buckeye Police Department's day-to-day activities. The sessions are scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the police department's training facility, and while the experience is free, space is limited and would-be attendees must meet certain eligibility criteria.

According to the city announcement, applicants must live or work in Buckeye, not have any felony arrests, and be at least 18 years of age. Additionally, there's a background check to pass, and applicants need to commit to attending each session throughout the entire course to be considered. Anyone falling short of these requirements may find themselves on the waiting list, rather than in the classroom.

Interested parties can forward their application to Don McWilliams, Police Community Programs Coordinator, either through email at [email protected]. Detailed information about this initiative can be found on the Buckeye City website.
