Amid concerns about safety and educational priorities, the contentious decision by Commissioners Harvie and Marseglia to terminate the School Resource Officer (SRO) program at Central Bucks West High School has sparked debate in Bucks County. Sheriff Fred Harran of Bucks County has come forward to publicly to express his disagreement with the move that was made without his consultation, as reported by the Bucks County Sheriff's Office. The SRO program, which places law enforcement officers within schools, has been in operation since the 2023-24 school year, with Deputy Sheriff Landis assigned at CB West High School.
In a statement released on the official Bucks County Sheriff's Office Facebook page, Sheriff Harran detailed the program's genesis and its perceived success, stating, "I believe that the SRO Program at CB West has been a success." However, the announcement by the commissioners aims to quickly to terminate this agreement.
"My Deputies and I remain committed to providing a School Resource Officer to the students, faculty, administration, and families of the Central Bucks School District," he affirms, as stated by the Bucks County Sheriff's Office.
