A Butler County teacher is facing charges after an incident that occurred during school hours last November, where she is accused of hitting an eight-year-old student in the face. According to Audacy, Carly Miller, 35, a special education instructor at Knoch Primary School in the Knoch School District, has been suspended and is expected to face simple assault and harassment charges, according to state police.
The district, learning about the allegations shortly after the incident, has cooperated with the investigation, and Miller is currently suspended while the school district begins the process of her termination however, Miller is reportedly contesting the decision, with the district solicitor Thomas Breth telling PennLive, “From the school district’s perspective, they’ll proceed through the process of terminating her employment and the criminal charges are something the teacher will have to deal with,” creating tension as her future with the school district remains uncertain.
Police have yet to disclose what led to the incident where Miller allegedly struck the student. Since the accusations surfaced, Miller's name has been removed from the district’s website, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the school's response, as detailed by TribLive.
