The City of Carrollton decided to cancel the Carrollton Health & Safety Fair this year due to forecasted storms that threatened the success and safety of the event, leaving the community to look forward to next year's gathering instead.
Originally set for yesterday, the fair, which would have seen its third year, was geared up to offer a variety of free activities ranging from Ninja Nation Fitness Group LLC obstacle courses to vehicle extrication demonstrations by Carrollton Fire Rescue. The event was also set to showcase crucial health screenings and public safety presentations at Standridge Stadium, according to a City of Carrollton press release.
In addition to those activities, CPR training was on the agenda, aligned with the city's push towards engaging citizens with potentially life-saving techniques. The American Heart Association estimates that "effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after SCA, can double, or triple, a person’s chance of survival," highlighting the importance of the demonstrations that were planned, per the City of Carrollton.
The event was also to honor Kacie Brekhus, through Kacie's Run, a 5K run and 1-mile Family Fun Run within the stadium, the proceeds were to benefit the CFBISD All Stars Special Olympics team, further commemorating Kacie's passionate legacy after her untimely death in a traffic accident in 2003.
