
In a commendable display of consistency, the City of Carrollton Municipal Court has snagged the 2025 Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives Award for the fourth time, this recognition handed down from the Texas Municipal Courts Education Center (TMCEC) celebrates the continuous efforts of medium-sized courts in elevating traffic safety and curbing impaired driving, Carrollton, with its population snugly within the 30,001-149,999 bracket, first clinched the award in 2019 and repeated this in 2020 also receiving an Honorable Mention in 2024, according to the press release from the City of Carrollton.
The City's team dedicated considerable resources to educate the youth and their families on road safety, implementing bilingual, age-appropriate materials to drive meaningful discussions within homes. The City's Presiding Judge Meredith Lyon expressed pride in the court's rigorous commitment to these educational initiatives, "Our court staff works diligently to educate the community on the dangers of impaired driving, and they have done a fantastic job of making sure the educational materials they provide are individually age appropriate for not only the children but also the parents," said Lyon in a statement detailed by the City of Carrollton's news release.
The Municipal Traffic Safety Initiatives (MTSI) award takes into account novelty in activities and approaches to increase traffic safety, prevent traffic-related offenses including impaired driving, juvenile DUI, and red light violations among others, Carrollton's multifaceted outreach reportedly involved an array of free materials provided by TMCEC and various national bodies, which were distributed across local events, and in schools in partnership with Carrolton Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) to maximize their outreach with minimal expense.
