Carrollton invites the community to its ninth annual Paws on the Square event, blending family-friendly entertainment with pet-focused activities. Scheduled for Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, the gathering spotlights the bond between pets and their owners in Historic Downtown Carrollton at 1106 S. Broadway Street.
The day's events promise a mix of fun and practicality, providing opportunities for pets to play, their humans to shop, and everyone to learn something new. Activities range from free caricatures, professional pet photos, to a variety of vendor booths offering pet accessories, treats, and valuable information. Visitors can also enjoy the local dining scene and, while supplies last, snag a dog-related promotional item, though there could be, a miscued comma within the throng of eager participants.
City registration for Carrollton residents' pets will be available at no charge with the presentation of a current rabies vaccination record—a measure aimed at smoothing the process of reuniting lost pets with their families. Additionally, Operation Kindness will be on-site offering low-cost vaccinations and microchipping during the early hours of the event, from 9-11 a.m.
At the Carrollton Animal Services (CAS) booth, eventgoers can delve into educational resources about the city's programs, volunteer openings, and pet adoptions. Monetary and material donations for CAS will also be gratefully accepted at this time. "There aren't very many events that focus on the special relationship between pets and their human companions the way Paws on the Square does," Carrollton Animal Services Manager Travis Caperton expressed, in a statement obtained by the City of Carrollton's announcement.
Event guidelines require that all dogs must wear ID tags, remain on a leash, have an up-to-date rabies vaccination—or be set to receive one during the event—and be accompanied by someone at least 18 years of age. For those still interested, sponsorship opportunities remain open for the event, aiming to continue its legacy of attracting hundreds of animal enthusiasts to Historic Downtown Carrollton year after year.
