Over the weekend, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Paso Del Norte international crossing in El Paso demonstrated their vigilance by apprehending a man sought for on charges related to the online solicitation of a minor. This individual, who is 27-years-old, was recently highlighted as the Amarillo Crime Stoppers fugitive of the week and faced an outstanding warrant.
The arrest occurred just after midnight yesterday when the suspect presented himself as pedestrian entering the United States from Mexico. A National Crime Information Center alert tipped off CBP officers about his wanted status. "The CBP inspection process routinely identifies people who are fleeing law enforcement," said CBP El Paso Port Director Ray Provencio in a statement released on the CBP website. "Every time CBP stops and apprehends a wanted subject means our shared communities are a safer place," he added.
Upon his capture, CBP officials confirmed the details of the warrant and subsequently turned the man over to the El Paso Police Department, where he awaits further legal proceedings. The full account of the arrest was reported by the Customs and Border Protection news release.
This was not an isolated success for the CBP officers in El Paso. Over the same weekend, they made five additional fugitive arrests at the El Paso ports. These individuals faced a range of charges, including assault, smuggling, and alien smuggling. The collective efforts of these officers stand as a testament to their ongoing commitment to uphold safety and enforce the law at our nation's borders.
