To combat auto theft, the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force is partnering with the Cedar Hill Police for a community-driven initiative focused on vehicle safety. For those in possession of a car or truck, a free VIN etching event is rolling into town, aimed squarely at making your ride a less desirable target for thieves. The game plan? Etch your vehicle's unique identification number onto its windows, making it significantly harder for criminals to dispose of or alter stolen autos.

The one-day event, parked at the local Target in Cedar Hill, is not just about etching VINs onto glass. It's about engraving a sense of security into the community. Slated for May 17th from 9 am to 11 am, according to the Cedar Hill Police Department's social media post, all are welcome to the Target parking lot at 739 N Hwy 67 to take a stand against car theft. This layer of protection comes complimentary, with local law enforcement rolling up their sleeves to serve drivers.

In collaboration with several law enforcement partners including Mansfield PD, Midlothian PD, Burleson PD, Texas Alvarado PD, Tarrant County Constable Office Pct. 7, Kennedale PD, Ellis County Sheriff's Office, and the support of the Texas Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, Texas Association of Vehicle Theft Investigators-TAVTI, and National Insurance Crime Bureau, the community outreach effort underscores a unified front against a surge in vehicular crime.
