The lifeline of safety that the Chandler Fire Department extends to families just got a $45,510 infusion from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, earmarked specifically for child car seat inspections and education. This grant, announced recently by the City of Chandler, Arizona, ensures that Chandler Fire Department can continue their Child Safety Seat Clinics program through September 30, and beyond it, families in need can have access to essential safety seats without worrying about the cost.

The grant will fund child car seat safety clinics run by Chandler Fire Department personnel on select Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Chandler Public Safety Center, 3550 S. Dobson Road. The next sessions are on April 12 and 19. Certified technicians from Chandler Fire Department, trained by SafeKids International, will help caregivers install car seats properly and ensure each child is in the right seat for their age and weight, as reported by the City of Chandler, Arizona.

According to the City of Chandler, Arizona, improper use or the simple lack of a child seat is a major factor making motor vehicle incidents one of the top causes of death among children in the United States. The Chandler Fire Department and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety have remained allied in the mission to protect young Arizonians in transit for over twenty years, and thanks to them since 2002 over 12,000 children have been made safe on Arizona's roads.
