The Chandler Museum will open a new exhibition, “¡MONSTRAS!: Female Legends of Latin America,” on April 26. The exhibition presents traditional Latin American stories with a focus on female figures often portrayed as "monsters," showing their roles and cultural significance from a different perspective, according to the City of Chandler.
“¡MONSTRAS!” is an exhibition running through August 31 that focuses on female figures from Latin American folklore who are often portrayed as villains or forbidden. Inspired by a podcast by Dr. Orquidea Morales and Brenda Salguero, the exhibition uses the Spanish word for monsters, “monstruos,” to explore stories from Central and South America and the Caribbean. It presents these myths as part of a broader global narrative about culture and identity, as reported by the City of Chandler.
The Chandler Museum is hosting a free exhibition titled "¡MONSTRAS!: Female Legends of Latin America," featuring "MONSTRA" stories illustrated through original artwork by artists Rayos Magos, Anna Lisa Escobedo, and Beatriz Vasquez. The exhibition also includes audio ghost stories. It is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday at 300 S. Chandler Village Drive. For more information, visit the Chandler Museum website or call 480-782-2717. The museum is closed on Mondays, as stated by the City of Chandler.
