Earlier today, Charlotte’s North Tryon Division became the backdrop for a grim scene. According to a press release from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, officers were dispatched around 6 a.m. to the 200 block of Eastway Drive after receiving reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Upon arrival, they found a victim with gunshot wounds, who was pronounced dead at the scene by MEDIC.
The CMPD Homicide Unit detectives quickly took the reins of a homicide investigation amidst the dawn's quiet. Notwithstanding the early details, the investigation remains active, with crime scene investigators collecting evidence and working to piece together the moments that culminated in this act of violence. Support also came from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, and the Charlotte Fire Department, demonstrating a unified effort to address the tragedy.
As detectives continue to unravel the circumstances leading to the killing, the public's assistance is being sought. "Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective," the CMPD public statement urged.
