Charlotte County Parks and Natural Resources asks beachgoers to be respectful by staying clear of the nests, filling in holes, and taking down sandcastles before leaving. This helps give hatchlings a clear path to the ocean on their journey to survival.
Artificial light can confuse sea turtle hatchlings and lead them away from the ocean, so beach visitors are asked not to use flashlights or phone lights at night. Charlotte County officials stress the importance of protecting the turtles’ natural journey by keeping beaches dark and peaceful, allowing hatchlings to follow the moonlight safely to the sea.
