Officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are on the lookout for a serial burglar who has been targeting local restaurants and bars in the Steele Creek and Westover Divisions, making away with hefty quantities of alcohol and leaving behind a trail of property damage after the establishments' operating hours, according to a recent communique released by the department.
The infamous spree began to unfold when authorities were dispatched to the scene of a burglary on the 100 block of Southside Dr., which unfolded on January 30, but was only reported a couple days later, on February 1st, what's notable here though, is that this burglary emerged as the harbinger of a series of similar crimes that would persevere throughout the next few weeks, with the most recent taking place on March 21, as reported by the CMPD Newsroom.
While several incidents mirror the modus operandi of a break-in followed by theft, one encounter at a business located on the 4000 block of South Blvd. on February 24 involved an individual who, encased in dark attire, triggered an alarm system, prompting a premature exit from the scene empty-handed, this peculiar event has not stemmed the tide of subsequent burglaries, confirming a pattern that has agitated local business owners.
The CMPD is asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect. They have released surveillance images and encourage anyone with information to come forward, assuring anonymity. Detectives hope community involvement will be key in solving the case and restoring security to local businesses.
Details of the burglaries along Tyvola Road, S. Stream Boulevard, and Westpark Drive, including dates and incident specificities, have been outlined in the CMPD's request, as the urgency to capture this elusive burglar mounts, so does the call for vigilance and community collaboration, the Police Department urges anyone with relevant information to come forward and aid in the restoration of peace and order to the affected areas.
