In a significant move to enhance cancer care in North Scottsdale, the City of Hope has taken concrete steps by opening a new treatment center that promises to make specialist care more readily accessible to local residents. ABC15 reports the grand opening of the 30,000-square-foot facility took place on Friday, a part of the broader One Scottsdale Medical development.
The new center is not just a boon for the local job market with over 50 positions, but it serves as a crucial node, much closer to home for patients such as Chuck Montgomery. According to a statement he gave to ABC15, the location is "actually kind of half way to where I go to work anyway," which simplifies his commute for necessary follow-up care, including a pending PET scan he may have at the new facility.
Highlighting the frustration cancer patients often face while seeking care across different locations, Dr. Kevin Tulipana, president of City of Hope Phoenix, told ABC15, "When people are struggling with cancer, they don’t want to have to drive all over the city and get a scan here and go to the labs there and get infusion at this place and radiation somewhere else. So our facility here will have everything that’s needed." This new center in the Valley aims to alleviate that logistical hassle, bringing more integrated services under one roof.
Expanding the availability of specialized physicians is also a critical component of City of Hope's strategy, mirroring Arizona's need for more healthcare professionals. By the time 2030 rolls around, the state is expected to require over 3,600 physicians to meet its healthcare demands adequately, noted by Jaime Northam, the senior vice president of healthcare development for Ryan Companies, as stated in the press release by PR Newswire.
The partnership between Ryan Companies and City of Hope goes beyond just the construction of the center; it represents an inherent commitment to providing top-tier cancer care. "Bringing City of Hope to Scottsdale and it's residents, is another example of how we are making hope a reality for all touched by cancer," Dr. Tulipana was quoted in the PR Newswire press release. With services such as medical oncology exams, infusion treatments, radiation oncology, and lab and imaging services, including mammography and ultrasound, this facility increases the healthcare services' reach.
Located strategically near the Loop 101, and with multiple hospitals such as HonorHealth Scottsdale Thompson Peak Medical Center nearby, the placement of One Scottsdale Medical Center bodes well for the continuum of care in the community.
