In Clackamas County, District Attorney John Wentworth provided an update on the county's efforts to combat retail theft. His statement outlined the results of a December sting operation, where 30 individuals were arrested over two days. As of now, 11 convictions have been secured, 8 cases are still pending, 4 individuals missed their court appearances, 2 cases were dismissed, and 5 juveniles are set for interventions. One person was arrested on an outstanding warrant and pleaded guilty, as per the Clackamas County release.

The charges include Theft in the Second Degree for items valued between $100 and $1,000, which can result in up to 364 days in jail and a $6,250 fine, or Theft in the Third Degree for items under $100, carrying up to 30 days in jail and a $1,250 fine.

Among those arrested, 26-year-old Peter Riley Lent pleaded guilty to Theft in the Second Degree while on probation. He has previous legal issues across counties. 64-year-old Ronald Lee Nida was sentenced to 18 months of probation and 2 days in jail for theft and meth possession. Jill Renee Lohr failed to appear in court and has outstanding warrants in Multnomah County.

Wentworth praised the collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and the Canby Police Department. The sting operation was partially funded by a $686,000 Organized Retail Theft Grant from the State of Oregon, which supports efforts to address retail theft. The District Attorney emphasized that his office will continue to provide updates on ongoing efforts to combat such crimes in the county.
