To illuminate the resources available for individuals impacted by domestic violence and sexual abuse, the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office is hosting an informational event this coming April. Scheduled for Thursday, from 2 to 5 p.m., the event will take place adjacent to the Clackamas County Courthouse and will involve multiple state and local agencies, along with non-profits, ready to offer support and advice to those in need.
Speaking to the difficulty crime victims face, Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth highlighted the sense of isolation such individuals often endure. "When someone is the victim of a crime it can feel very lonely," Wentworth emphasized, according to the Clackamas County news release. The assembly of organizations at the event aims to dismantle this loneliness by providing a wide spectrum of assistance, from escape from abusive relationships to the procedural details of sexual assault cases, child welfare investigations, and the solace offered by therapy dogs to those victimized by crime.
In parallel with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and National Crime Victims' Rights Week, the DA's office offers a timely opportunity for community engagement. Not only officials like Wentworth but also representatives of the DA's victim assistance program and A Safe Place Family Justice Center will be present for interviews, iterating their commitment to aiding domestic violence victims.
Among the organizations participating will be A Safe Place Family Justice Center, which provides critical, comprehensive services to women and families escaping abuse or domestic violence scenarios, per the event's listing. Additionally, other institutions, such as Dove Lewis Emergency Animal Hospital with therapy dogs, the Clackamas Women’s Services, and the Oregon Dept of Justice Civil Rights Unit, will also be present to share their expertise and extend their support systems to those affected.
