An 81-year-old man from Clarkston, Michigan, faces multiple charges after allegedly creating and possessing child pornography by superimposing photographs of minors onto explicit images of adults. James Lawrence Meloche, the accused, was arraigned on three counts each of child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime, and possession of child sexually abusive material, as reported by WWJ Newsradio.

According to WWJ Newsradio, the investigation into Meloche's activities began after a member of the public discovered a stack of papers left behind by Meloche, which included personal emails, meeting agendas of the Village of Clarkston Historic District Commission, where he served as president, and several pornographic images with children's faces. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office then executed a search warrant on Meloche's residence, where they seized various electronic devices and found over a thousand images of the concerning content.

Meloche was arrested at an Independence Township business and has been held at the Oakland County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Mid-Michigan Now highlighted that detectives sifting through Meloche's devices discovered a multitude of images, including those with sexually explicit captions and graphic drawings. Authorities have identified three minor victims, with no further victims currently known.

Adding perspective to Meloche's prior community standing, his attorney mentioned his past role in the 1988 Winter Olympics ski patrol. "He is not a flight risk," Jeff Quas told FOX 2 Detroit, remarking on Meloche's "long-storied, successful, respectable and envied career both professionally and from a community perspective." If Meloche fails to post bond, he is barred from having contact with the victims, anyone under the age of 18, and is not allowed internet access.
