Big changes are on the horizon for the City of Clarksville as Chief Financial Officer Laurie Matta announces her departure after over a decade of fiscal stewardship. Matta has been a central figure in the city’s financial well-being, guiding the Finance & Revenue Department to win the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Award for Excellence in Finance Reporting for 10 straight years. With a notable track record behind her, Matta is setting her sights on Colorado for her next chapter.

Describing her tenure in Clarksville, Matta shared, “It’s been a true pleasure working for this incredible City,” in a statement released by the City of Clarksville. She went on to note the warm reception and deep connections she’s made during her time in Clarksville. Her contributions during the Springtime, her self-declared favorite season for budget preparation, have left the city in anticipation of a strong Fiscal Year 2026.

Laurie Matta has already laid out plans for the upcoming budget season before her departure. She will still lead the budget through the City Council Standing Committee phase and aid the Mayor in presenting it. Once this process wraps up, Deputy Chief Financial Officer Christen Wilcox will step into an interim role. “For nearly five years, Christen has been right beside me every step of the way, and I have full confidence in her ability to lead without missing a beat,” Matta said.

Clarksville’s Mayor Joe Pitts lauded Matta for her years of service and her part in the city’s financial successes. In her time, the city witnessed critical developments, including the implementation of the Transportation 2020+ master plan and the creation of the ACT Authority, paving the way for a new performing arts center. The mayor was quoted as saying, "Laurie Matta has been an asset to our city and her future home in Colorado is getting the consummate professional," aligning with the impression she’s made over her long tenure.

With Matta's exit, Clarksville will soon initiate the search for a new CFO to fill the considerable shoes she leaves behind. Mayor Pitts indicated that this process would begin after the adoption of the City’s Fiscal 2026 budget. As the city prepares for its fiscal future, the residents of Clarksville will be watching closely to see who will take on the significant responsibility of steering their city’s finances in the years to come.
